Feature / psychological horror / in-development
LOGLINE: Haunted by spectres of self-doubt after a bitter argument with her friend, an outspoken comedienne must break a curse that threatens to silence her forever.
SYNOPSIS: Zadie is an audacious rising star in the Toronto comedy scene, unaware that her friend Janelle is growing resentful of her success and alienated by her intense energy. When their simmering tensions boil over into a bitter argument, Janelle seizes the moment to humble Zadie with a sharp personal rebuke. As Zadie approaches a major career opportunity, she finds herself suddenly tormented by malicious phantoms that feed on her latent self-doubt. Initially convinced she’s being plagued by repressed mental health issues, Zadie desperately seeks treatment and support, but eventually begins to suspect there’s something more sinister at play. Her investigation into Janelle’s past friendships reveals a shocking truth— Janelle has exhumed an occult practice to infuse her words of reprimand with black magic. As Zadie’s psychological torment extends to physical disfigurement, she must summon the strength to reclaim her voice and confront Janelle in order to break a curse that threatens to silence her forever.
STATUS: We currently have a fifth draft of the screenplay, a detailed director’s treatment, and a tentative budget and financing plan. We are looking for post-production and VFX producing partners, as well as an in international sales agent.
